Auskick @ SCG Report

Nine Heathcote Auskickers again had the chance to play the half time match at the Swans game on the 6th June. This time a wet Sunday afternoon match against the Bombers and a 30,000 crowd greeted us at the SCG. The rain held off until we lined up to run onto the field and but then started to provide us some classic June wet weather footy. Luckily we got off in time before the heavens really opened up for the AFL players in the second half.

Our team played well against a much older team from Penshurst. William Nolan gave us some height across the ground which is always important in the wet, and his brother Richard gathered some early kicks in the backline.

Zac Gilbert got plenty of the ball in his first year at the Hawks while Jack Stewart showed his normal commitment to getting the footy. Our ‘smalls’ Franklin Rowan, Kyle Howard and Adam Coombs roved the forward line sharing the ball amongst each other like a well drilled team, while Harrison Rowan and Kaelan Sidebottom picked up many possessions in the mid-field.
Our policy of always playing the oldest nine kids who have never played before meant a few missed out, however Luke, Zac, Connor and Samuel will surely get their chance to play next year. Thanks to the parents who were understanding of this and were happy to bring these kids along as emergencies.
After the match, those that braved or escaped the rain were treated to a great game where the Swans got up by 9 points.
Thanks to all the parents for making the effort to be there on time (I was about 30 mins late) and making sure the kids made the most of their opportunity to play on the big stage. Thanks again to Brett Coombs for helping organise the kids in the change rooms and being our goal umpire.
