Round 1 Hawks v Penshurst Green 27th March 2010
What a great start to the season with a win against Penshurst Green. All the new recruits played well and were shown the way by all our player returning from last season. The pleasing thing for me in this game was the teamwork that was shown. The handballing has improved remarkably from last year. We had some great goal scorers in this game with Daniel Travers booting three. Finn also had a great game where ever he played. Todd’s game in defence was outstanding as well. It was great to see the players from last year getting their new team mates involved in the game so early in the season. Well done Hawkies.
Round 2 Bangor V Hawks 17th April 2010
Another great game from an ever improving under tens outfit. We are starting to show some of the things we are learning at training. Both Bangor and the Hawks were evenly matched but at the end of the day the Hawks came away with a good win. Once again the teamwork that is starting to show through is very pleasing and making a big difference. Todd and Anthony worked really well together on several occasions to help bring about some great team goals. Some of our smaller players in the team are starting to get their confidence and scoring goals as well. Well done to Keegan, Liam (Junior) Minehan and Pud. More and more each week players are starting to listen and do what the coach is asking on both game day and training and it’s making a big difference.
Well done again this week guys.
Round 3 Hawks V Miranda 24th April 2010
First up I must say today was a great day for the club. The team song was sung three times today which I haven’t seen done in my time at the club. I think that shows that things are looking up.
As for the under 10’s, well we were one of the teams singing the song. Another great effort today guys in one of the toughest games of under 10’s footy I have seen in a long time. With the tackle rule being thrown out the window by the umpires, the team stood up to some pretty rough and tumble stuff that you would not have been used to. It was great to see the team work again this week.
I can see you all starting to think when you get the ball and not just kicking it anywhere.
It was also pleasing to see the smaller players getting in and getting a kick in the rough conditions.
The kicking out from goals is improving each week. It was also great to see the bigger guys in the team stand up and help out the smaller guys. This game is all about team work and you are getting better at it each week.
Well done Hawks – three from three, what a great way to start the season.
Round 4 Bangor V Hawks 1st May 2010
Another great win today for the Hawks. The most pleasing thing for me as a coach is that you guys are training hard and taking the things you are learning into the game with you. As our club song quite clearly says “Teamwork is the thing that talks” and I believe that is the strongest part of our game. We are doing the things other teams are not doing. We are encouraging our team mates with high fives and pats on the back which is great to see. We are handpassing the ball to our team mates that are in a better position than us. The whole team is getting involved in the game and the running and chasing the opposition and putting pressure on them. I would like to make special mention of two players this week and they are Harry Drury for his best effort of the season and Ethan Fuller who continues to improve every week.
Thanks to all the Hawks mums and dads who help out every week, it is greatly appreciated.
Round 6 Penshurst Green V Hawks 15th May 2010
Good effort today guys but it certainly wasn’t our best performance. There were a few guys missing from training this week and I think it showed on the field. Although we put in a solid performance the teamwork that has been our strong point over the last couple of weeks wasn’t there. Finn had a fantastic game today and I noticed a remarkable difference in the way he is kicking the ball.
Also a special mention to some of the mighty midgets. Griff, Pud, and Thomo scored four out of the six goals that were kicked today which was a great effort considering their size.
Well done again today Hawkies that’s five wins from five games this season, lets try and keep it up.
Round 7 Hawks V Bangor 29th May 2010
The Hawks under 10’s are back in the winners circle this week. We played on an overcast day that looked like it was going to rain. The Bangor Tigers only had eight players so we split both teams and had what was basically a game against ourselves as there were eight Hawks on each team. It was a really closely contested match with Hawks players dominating on both teams. Finn was outstanding on one team and Ethan M and the magic man Daniel Travers outstanding on the other. I think it worked out well for us, as once again we didn’t get to train during the week. The teamwork started coming back and I think our confidence started to show again. I would also like to make a special mention of Matty who went off with a blood nose early in the first quarter and showed a lot of courage by coming back on and playing well. Pud bagged three goals today by not following the ball all over the ground. He left his player and waited back in the goal square for the ball to come to him.
Smart thinking son of mine.
Well done Hawks and hopefully we will get to do some training on Wednesday if the rain stays away.
Round 8 Cronulla V Hawks 12th June 2010
Round eight finally got underway a week late due to some heavy rain the week earlier. We came up against a very strong Cronulla team that dealt us our second defeat this year. Whilst we were missing a few of our players due to the long weekend we still put in a strong performance. Our first quarter was slow and we took a long time to get into gear but as the game went on we were a much more competitive team. The Sharks team are unbeaten this year and have a lot of good players. It was pleasing to see all of the Hawks run and chase their opponents and not give up. The magic man Daniel Travers was back to his best today with some great work out of the centre. Super boot also had a great game with some strong ruck work. Todd was our only goal scorer for the day but that was due to some great teamwork. WE can’t win them all Hawkies but I’m sure we will keep on trying.
Round 9 Ramsgate Gold V Hawks 19th June 2010
Without a doubt this was our best game of the season so far. Our teamwork was outstanding, our ball movement was the best I’ve seen from you and you listened to and did everything I asked of you. What a difference it makes when you look where you kick the ball. At one stage in the third quarter we moved the ball from a kick in at full back through the goals at our end with the other team only getting a fingernail on the ball once. It was great to see the Magic man bring his mate Kegs into the play with some great handballing out the centre. For me the outstanding effort today was Liam Heinz. He ran, marked, kicked and handballed as good as any first year player I have seen.
We kicked a total of ten goals which were spread amongst six different Hawks.
You keep playing like the way you played today guys and the future is looking bright for the Mighty Hawks. Keep it up, well done, you should be proud of yourselves.
Round 10 Hawks V Ramsgate Blue 26th June 2010
Today was another one of those games when we basically played between ourselves because Ramsgate turned up with only five players. We split into two very evenly matched teams and slugged out what I thought was a really competitive competition. Big Ethan and the Magic Man had a great tussle all day. Todd was strong with his attack on the ball and Ant loved the tackling that was allowed to flow without penalty by the umpires. There was some excellent handballing and teamwork and our leading is getting a lot better. The mighty midgets in our team all played well with Thommo running hard all day and Griff and Pud both scoring goals. The team is improving every week which is very pleasing from a coaches point of view. Keep up the good work guys.
Round 11 Hawks V Cronulla 3rd July 2010
Awesome guys, simply awesome. Without a doubt the best game of under 10’s football I have seen.
Unfortunately we didn’t win the game today but the effort that was put in today was the best of the year. Cronulla have gone through the season undefeated so far and quite frankly I think we are the only team that can possibly beat them. The opposition was not used to the attack they come under today and it showed. The pressure that we consistently put them under caused them to make a lot of mistakes they normally wouldn’t make. Whilst the umpires let the game get totally out of hand in regards to the tackling rule we hung in there all day and never stopped competing. Today I want to make a special mention to Big Ethan. I have coached this kid from Auskick and seen him play and mature over the last five years. I have never seen him play a better game than he did today. His effort was something I didn’t think was possible from a boy his age. Well done mate.
The rest of the team should all be extremely proud as well because as I have told you over and over again, this is a team game and we are all in it together.
Well done again Hawkies you were fantastic.
Round 12 Bankstown V Hawks 17th July 2010
Another loss today but once again it was against a very good team and we tried hard all day. We started off very slowly and Bankstown scored two goals early which made it hard for us from then on. We got into stride half way through the second quarter and evened things up. We hit the front briefly in the third quarter but couldn’t hold on for the win. It was a cold morning and we were not attacking the football as hard as we were against Cronulla in our last game. However, there were some strong performances to note with Ant, Ryan, Liam H and Todd all trying hard. Big Ethan also had another outstanding game today. Griff took a great mark in front of goal and went on to kick the ball through the big sticks, a great effort for a player his size.
We will have a few extra players back next week and hope to return to the winners list when we play Ramsgate Blue. See you all at training on Wednesday.
Round 13 Ramsgate Blue V Hawks 24th July 2010
Well that is three in a row we have lost. I think it is fair to say that was the worst game of the year for our otherwise very competitive footy team. We couldn’t pick the ball up, we didn’t kick the ball to our team mates and we were not first to the footy. All of these things are so important if you guys want to grow as footballers. There was some other on field issues that were stacked against us with the other team deciding to play an extra player on the ground for the first half. It was hard to pick a standout player today but it was great to have Kegs and the Magic Man back in the team.
Nothing seemed to work today and I think we will lock that one in the vault and forget about it.
Keep your heads up guys and let’s hopefully finish off the season with two wins.
